Vendicari Noto Visiting Sicily
Vendicari is a long bay facing the Ionic sea. Here, one may see some fishermen’s houses, the ruins of an old building which was used for the processing of tuna and a grand castle washed by the sea, attributed to Peter of Aragon, King of Spain and Sicily.
Vendicari includes a number of quagmires which are amongst the most beautiful in Sicily.
They provide resting-spots through the whole Winter to numerous species of birds during their migration between Africa and Europe. Flamingoes, swans, heron and sea-gulls are just a few of the many winged species which visit Vendicari each year.
The area also includes a large variety of plants, some of which are completely extinct in the rest part of Sicily.
